Tireless, independent and seemingly without limits Danelle optimizes on the free-spirited strength of the Colorado Rockies and the Utah Canyonlands, where she calls home. The outdoors are literally her playground. She draws strength from its awesome power and welcomes its challenges. She is a woman who pursues her dreams passionately with skill, endurance and spiritual balance.
A kinesiology/biology graduate from the University of Colorado-Boulder, Danelle daily sets her mind to “doing things most people cannot”. In her 11 years as a professional athlete, Danelle has earned six “US Athlete of the Year” titles in four different endurance sports: Adventure racing, Duathlon, Mountain Running, and Multisport. She has conquered many of the world’s better-known mountains as a competitor in numerous high altitude marathons and has distinguished herself as a professional duathlete and triathlete. Currently a member of Team Spyder; Danelle, along with her teammates have dominated the adventure racing competition the last few years by winning the Adventure Racing World Championships, the Balance Bar Adventure race series, the Raid World Championships, the Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race, and several other competitions. These events, along with others have produced over 200 hours of television time throughout 20 countries. In the year 2000, Danelle set the Colorado 14er’s Female Speed Record by climbing all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000 ft peaks in under 15 days. She also dominates in snowshoe racing, having won over 100 snowshoe races including 11 North American Snowshoe Championship titles.
This year already, Danelle has won three National Championship Titles: the Winter Triathlon National Championships in Breckenridge, the North American Snowshoe Championship in Beaver Creek, and the US Rogaine Championship in Antelope, Oregon with Team Spyder teammate Rebecca Rush. She also won the Costa Rica Solo Adventure Race, the Breckenridge Adventure Extreme Solo Race, and the Jay Mountain Marathon. She was second at the US trail Running Championship, the Mt Taylor Winter Quadrathlon, and the Canyonlands ½ Marathon. In March she was inducted into the Sportswoman Hall of Fame as this was her third title. (In ’93 and ’94 for triathlon, and 2006 for adventure racing.)
From fitness trainer to endurance coach, race director to author, Danelle has infused her personal energy into the world around her. She has been featured in dozens of magazines including Outside Magazine and Sport Illustrated, appeared on CBS, NBC, ESPN, USA Network and OLN, created a video on learning to snowshoe and has provided numerous clinics to peers and everyday people on many different sports and fitness related topics. Her message is lived out daily in her own life: “Get as much into each day as you can.”
In addition to competing, Danelle works as an ACE certified personal trainer at the Silverthorne Recreation Center where she helps others to achieve their goals. She also coaches endurance athletes by providing training programs via email and has a website, TrainingRx.com. She works with a variety of people, from coach potatoes to elite athletes. Over the last 12 winters, Danelle has worked for Tubbs Snowshoe Company where she helps with the promotion of their snowshoes. She also coordinates and directs endurance events throughout Colorado. Her business, I’m Crazy Events has produced over 50 endurance events, from snowshoe races to triathlons, to multisport festivals, including some National Championships and National’s qualifying events. Danelle owns five properties, and manages four of them as rental properties; two small condos in Dillon, a townhouse in Silverthorne, a small cabin in Alma and a house in Moab. She also serves as the vice president of the American Trail Running Association and is on the board of the United States Snowshoe Association.
Since 1995; Danelle has competed in 441 endurance events and has finished in the top three in over 90% of these, including several National and World Championship events. This is an achievement she is most proud of and a record that no other endurance athlete can compare to. She plans continue to participate in many outdoor and multi-sport events each year with consistent top results.
